IT Education in Ukraine

Ukraine’s IT industry has a promising future owing to its population’s high level of technical education. Currently, the IT area enjoys wide popularity among intelligent young people, and attracts the ever growing interest of university applicants.

Today, Ukraine has 103 institutions of higher learning that provide IT education. Every year, an average 30,000 IT students graduate from their universities.

Practically every engineering institution or multi-discipline university has a Cybernetics and Computer Systems Department. The largest number of IT professionals graduate from the higher educational institutions of Kyiv, Kharkiv, Lviv, Donetsk and Luhansk. Ukrainian institutes and universities participate in the Bologna process and grade their students according to the credits and modules system.

Ukraine provides IT education in the following areas:

  • System Sciences and Cybernetics (Applied Maths, Informatics, System Analysis and Computer Sciences)
  • Informatics and Computer Engineering (Hardware and Software Engineering)
  • Control Automation (System Engineering, Automation and Computer Integrated Technologies)

In order to gain valuable experience, most students start working in their professional or related fields while studying at the university. Undergraduates often work as freelancers or full- or part-time employees of large IT companies.
