On 24-25th of September, 2011 the first official mini-football tournament among IT companies, IT Cup Kyiv 2011, was held in the sports complex of the Ukrainian National Technical University KPI.
Football teams from eight IT companies: Infopulse Ukraine, Ciklum, EPAM, Magento, NetCracker, Luxoft, SimCorp, Teneta-Host took part in this tournament.
In the play-off the teams were divided into two groups (four teams in each group). According to the goal difference (goals scored minus goals conceded) in play-offs, Infopulse Ukraine advanced into the semi-finals to contend for the championship with the teams of EPAM Barcap, NetCracker and Ciklum.
In the semi-finals Infopulse managed to snatch a victory from NetCracker team (Infopulse 2:1NetCracker) and get into the finals, where Infopulse played with EPAM Barcap team, the favourite of the tournament. The results of the tense finals are the following:
1st place: EPAM Barcap
2nd place: Infopulse Ukraine
3rd place: Ciklum
When asked whether the team expected to win, the team captain Alexey Puzankov smiled: “We sure did! There were four new players in the team, so we didn’t have everything smooth during the first day. But then we managed to pull ourselves together!”
The IT Cup rules were strict: only employees of the IT-companies were allowed to play. And the tournament proved that IT specialists can play football on a very high level!
All the players of Infopulse Ukraine team showed a good level of football. A special tribute should be paid to the performance of the goalkeeper Maksim Shtanko and the forward Denis Meleshchuk, who was named the best player of the tournament.
The silver prize of IT Cup 2011 is not the first victory for Infopulse Ukraine. This May our team won the third place in the first charitable mini-football tournament for corporate teams “The Cup of Open Hearts”. At the moment the team keeps training and playing. On the 8th of October Infopulse took part in the first match of its first big championship – Kiev Futsal Championship 2011-2012.
