Supporting Children with Down Syndrome in Ukraine
EDB together with Infopulse Ukraine has embarked on a new corporate CSR project supporting children with Down syndrome and their families in Ukraine. This is a three year project which is aimed at delivering the best information resources, advice and good education services in Ukraine. It will encourage social and political change to improve the lives of the estimated 10,000 people living with Down syndrome across Ukraine.
One of the main goals of our corporate CSR project for 2010 is ensuring the start up of the first Early Development Center in Ukraine for children with Down syndrome. This includes three milestones for this year:
- providing the necessary support for the center refurbishment
- ensuring that the best professionals are in place to provide all the necessary services for the children with Down syndrome
- equipping the center with the best information resources and services available
Centre refurbishment completed!
We are happy to announce the successful completion of the center refurbishment!
Just within three summer months it turned from an old partially dilapidated building with poor plumbing and heating into a wonderful warm and cozy place ready to include children with Down syndrome and launch the so needed services.
Conference successfully completed!
On September, 22 the Ukrainian Down Syndrome Organization hosted a one day conference for families, education and healthcare professionals to provide information about Down syndrome, effective early intervention, education and healthcare, to introduce the project and to launch the charity’s new services.
EDB’s Country Representative, Pål Torjus Halsne, had the privilege to speak at the conference about EDB’s social initiatives and the work that is being done in Ukraine to deliver a meaningful social change for the people with Down syndrome.
Professional service support on track!
At this time the Ukrainian Down syndrome Organization staff has also gone through a number of highly professional training seminars provided in the new refurbished center by the world’s best education and healthcare professionals. The center is now ready to launch parent support and the early intervention and education services for children with Down syndrome and their parents in Ukraine.
All the services are free of charge for any family that wants to bring their child to the center.
